EXCERPT FROM...
The Adventures of Little Fox Book One, 'Generations'
Chapter One ~ Trecar’s Birth ~
It was a dark and rainy night. Even as the wind howled furiously and the rain fell in large drops, the female fox and her mate were snug inside their den.
Every now and then, a gust of wind found its way into their safe haven, but the fox pair was concerned with more important matters. Serena, the female fox, lay huddled against a large
rock. She knew her pup would be born tonight. Timmeno, her mate, paced at the den's entrance. He could not wait for his pup to be born.
Serena, can't I help you? Isn't there anything I can do?
Serena replied with a growl and a look of contempt.
She was a beautiful reddish brown fox with black tip ears. Timmeno loved her one white front paw and the black tip on her bushy tail. He ignored her harsh response and settled down to
wait. He wished the rain would stop. It didn't seem right for his pup to be born into such tumult. The den nearly shook with the thunderclaps.
The thunder was so loud that
Timmeno didn’t even hear Serena yelp as she
birthed the pup.
“Timmeno,” she whispered in a quiet moment,
“she’s here.”
Timmeno ran to her side.
“I am the father
of a baby girl pup!” he exclaimed.
It was a
great honor in the fox community to be the
father of a girl pup. It was common knowledge
that girl fox pups learn much faster than
boy pups. Timmeno nuzzled the newborn pup
and gave Serena a devilish smile of approval.
The pup looked just like him except for the
diamond-shaped patch of brown fur between
her ears.
“Oh, Serena, she is beautiful. We will name
her Trecar because she is as beautiful as a fox
princess.”
Serena agreed.
Timmeno always thought of
himself as crown prince of the red foxes — as if
there was such a title. She groomed her
princess from head to toe before she drifted off
to sleep with Timmeno’s body surrounding
them both.
